/ SOMIRO — Soft Milli Robot /

Client: Warrant Hub / Project type: VISUAL IDENTITY

SOMIRO is a fascinating Horizon 2020 funded project that will develop and demonstrate the world’s first energy-autonomous swimming milli-robot with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of farming in terms of carbon footprint, eutrophication and excessive use of pesticides and feed.

I was invited to create a series of illustration to include in the project presentation: an illustration milli-robot itself and an illustration of its environment. It has been an extremely interesting and challenging brief, since the prototype of the milli-robot was not yet developed. working closely with Warrant Hub and project coordinator Klas Hjort. The robot, whose shape would be inspired by the ocean flatworm and whose functionality would rely only on natural sunlight, should reach sizes down to 10 mm long.

Once the SOMIRO project was developed and funded by the EU, the millirobot needed a logotype. So I was approached again and asked to create a logotype. I opted for a minimalist logo that incorporates a linear and stylized illustration of a rice plant, underlined by the essential shape of a wave to maintain the elegance and cleanliness of the design. I have chosen a colour palette which suggests the aquatic environment of rice fields in which the milli-robots will be mostly used. I also created a promotional leaflet and infographics for divulgation and promotion

I thank again Warrant Hub and the Division of Microsystems Technology at Uppsala University for involving me in this exciting project.
